A Brief Biography: A professional artist, actor and photographer, Shaira Holman was born in Los Angeles and moved to Canada in 1981.

A graduate of Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design in 1991, Shaira joined the public art/activist group The Vancouver Association for Non-Commercial Culture where she made individual multi-media works and collaborated collectively. Her video Non-Document, made with other group members, documented this phenomenon.

Shaira was a regular on the television series, Madison and has performed in plays at The Firehall, Presentation House, Vancouver East Cultural Centre, Vancouver Fringe and Women in View Festivals.

Shaira has shown in solo and group shows at The Roundhouse, Charles H. Scott, Exposure and Fotobase galleries, as well as in Artropolis 1993.

Her renowned photo-art exhibition G.I.D.: Gender Identity Disorder or... Girls in Drag was exhibited at The Helen Pitt International Gallery, Harry's Off Commercial, Leatherwerks as well as Studio Q, the new Vancouver queer salon that she founded and operates. G.I.D. was exhibited in the San Francisco Public Library in 2001, and in 2002 will be travelling to the Soady-Campbell Gallery in New York.
